NOTICE OF DEATH
It is with deep regret that we are announcing the death of our brother Gordon “Rip” Hartley on Friday, August 27, 2010 at the age of 63. He was a member of the Local since August 24, 1964 and retired since November 1st 2006. Friends may call at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue in Carleton Place on Friday September 3, 2010 from 10 a.m. until funeral service in the chapel at 12 noon.
There are still places left for the Foreman course.
Local 71 is looking for members to participate in the foreman course. Please register with the local as soon as possible.

Local 71 will be offering a PM3 course for its members from October 18 to October 22, 2010 ( 5 days, 8 hours per day) with limited room.
A Petroleum Mechanic 3 overview:
PM2- Underground Installation
A person who holds a PM2 license may, without supervision, install, remove, alter, test, service and maintain any type of underground installation and the equipment and accessories essential to its operation.
PM3 – Aboveground Installation
A person who holds a PM3 license may, without supervision, install, remove, alter, repair, test, service and maintain any type of aboveground installation and the equipment and accessories essential to its operation.

NOTICE TO ALL UNITED ASSOCIATION LOCALS
Please be advised that work in our jurisdiction has slowed dramatically and Local 488 will not be putting any Travel Cards to work for approximately six (6) to twelve (12) months.
Please inform all your members that we will not be accepting any telephone calls regarding the work situation in our jurisdiction at this time.

This is to inform you that effective May 1, 2008, the Ontario Plumbing exam will no longer be available. Plumber Apprentices and challengers will be writing the Interprovincial examination using the National Plumbing Code book of Canada 2005.
